Weight Watchers Daily Point Quiz

The first step to a healthier you when doing Weight Watchers is to calculate how many points you are allowed each day. To find your daily point allowance simply take the short quiz below and calculate your totals. Remember that 18 is the least amount of points allowed in a day and 44 is the most. If you are new to Weight Watchers and are not sure how the program works, you can find an article here that explains the basics of how to do it.

Please note: This quiz is for the old POINTS plan (prior to December 2010). The new PointsPlus plan makes it a little more difficult to calculate your daily PointsPlus Target. At this time, to calculate your target you basically have 3 options – they will give it to you at your meeting, get it online using E-Tools or purchase a new PointsPlus Calculatorand enter your information.

Here is the old POINTS quiz: (Prior to December 2010)

1. Sex:
Female — 2pts
Male — 8pts

2. Age:
17-26 — 4pts
27-37 — 3pts
38-47 –2pts
48-58 — 1pt
Over 58 — 0pt

3. First two 2 digits of your current weight:
(Example: Weight 165 = 16pt or Weight 230 = 23pt)

4. Height
Under 5’1″: 0pts
5’1″ to 5’10”: 1pt
5’10” and over: 2pts

5. Daily Activity Levels:
Sitting: 0pts
Some Sitting, Mostly Standing: 2pts
Walking most of the time: 4pts
Doing physically hard work most of the time: 6pts

6. Nursing Mom?
Solely Nursing: 10 pts
Supplementing with solid food or formula: 5 pts

Keep in mind that as you lose weight you will also start to lose points. Whenever the 2nd digit of your weight changes so does your daily point allowance. For example, if you weighed 170 pounds one week and then 168 pounds the next week, the second digit changed from a 7 to a 6 so you lose 1 point from your daily total. This is to insure that the weight loss continues until you reach your goal weight.

In addition to your daily points you are also allowed 35 bonus points each week. It is recommended that you use these points for special occaisions such as a holiday dinner, birthday celebration, or other event. It is NOT recommended to divide the 35 points up among the days of the week giving yourself 5 extra points each day. Remember, the goal here is to lose weight.

Ebay has tons of weight watchers kits, as well as the new points plus calculator.

  2. Jessica says:

I use the old WW system and when I do the matrix for determining daily allowance points, I am allowed 16. Someone told me that the lowest daily allowance should be 18. Has anyone else heard that?

  3. Dan says:

Hi Cori – I checked Azteca’s website and they do not have nutrition info available. I sent them an email to see if they could provide me with any info, I’ll let you know if I get a response.

Hi Kelsey – yep, amazon does also. Prices are very high every where right now because of limited availability, hopefully that will change soon

Hi Jessica – your friend is correct (it’s also in the 1st paragraph above). Minimum points allowed is 18 and max is 44

Hey. My Aunt does weight watchers, the real Weight Watchers, and her weight is 336 , age 48 , height 5’4, and she gets 47 pts. But, when I calculated it on here thats not how many points it was. So , I’m a little confused, it says I get 21 pts. but if it was wrong with my aunt then how do I know if its really right for me, I just dont want to waste time & money on food and not lose the weight.

Also, if I take the Zi Xiu Tang pills with this, will that be bad??
Another Question; I’m currently taking laxative pills to help me poop so if I poop all this food out is that bad?

  5. Dan says:

Hello Louise, it appears that your Aunt is doing the new version of weight watchers (PointsPlus). The quiz above is for the old version (pre December 2010). Both programs work but if you want to do the new version you pretty much have to sign up with weight watchers, there’s not a lot of free info available for it at this time.

I’m not familiar with the Zi Xiu Tang pills, if it’s some type of vitamin or supplement it should be fine. If it’s for weight loss, you may want to stop using it while doing weight watchers. As far as the laxative goes, as long as you are following the direction for your particular brand of laxative you will be fine. Hope this helps and good luck!

    Week 21: -1lb
    Total to date: -42lbs
Forgot to update on Sunday when I weighed. I’ve been helping a friend with her wedding so I’ve been busy with all that. Perhaps the frantic pace of the last 10 or so days will make me have a decent number this coming up week, but I doubt it. Haven’t really been following the program. Haven’t even come close to meeting my points at all. By the time I sit down at the end of the day I realize I haven’t been eating enough (funny huh lol). I know being like this usually makes by body hold on to the weight unfortunately. Maybe I can make it up on Saturday by eating a giant piece of wedding cake lol.

  7. Dan says:

That’s great, KittKatt, down another pound!

It’s hard to tell how those frantic days will affect weigh ins. Sometimes it’s good, sometimes not so good.

And you’re right, sometimes you eat something that you think is totally blowing your diet (like wedding cake) and it seems like it kick starts your metabolism or something and you actually end up having a good weigh in.

Best wishes on your next weigh in and have a great time at the wedding!! πŸ™‚

Hello I’m writing this for someone that’s on the WW program. The first week of the program she lost 10pds the second week she lost 4 pds now all of a sudden she is gaining it all back,[she stick to her points].she is getting very discourage I read on a post that it said eating a lot of 0 points item you shouldn’t do?… I really want to help her but don’t know how.

  9. Dan says:

Hi airica, the best advice would be to encourage her to stick with the plan and not give up. A lot of times when the weigh comes off really quick like that (14 pounds in 2 weeks) there will be a bit of a bounce back. If she continues eating like she is supposed to and gets a little exercise she will lose in the long run and the little gains here and there aren’t a big deal.

0 point items are good in moderation but most do still contain calories which will add up quickly if left unchecked. That is why the guidelines specify only five 0 points items per day. You can eat more than five, you just have to count it as a point per serving after five. Hope this helps!

  10. airica says:

thank you ill let her know,

Posting a day late because for some reason I can’t seem to get myself together lately lol.
    Week 23:
    This week: -1lb
    Total to date: -45lbs.

  15. Dan says:

KittKatt, you are simply unstoppable! How’s the training for the hallf marathon coming?

  16. KittKatt says:

Hey Dan! Actually the half marathon training isn’t going very well at all. To tell the truth, I haven’t done and actual running/training in almost a month. In fact the only excersise I’ve been getting lately is walking the dogs, and that’s sporadic at best. πŸ™ I’m trying to get back on track, but I’m just finding it hard to get and stay motivated lately. I know I need to before the weight loss comes to a standstill. Anyone have and motivational ideas/daily affermations, ect.? At this point I’m willing to try anything. πŸ™‚

  17. Dan says:

    KittKatt,

Sorry to hear about your training. Was there a reason that you stopped? In my own experience, I always found that if I started off on an exercise program too intensely I was less likely to stick with it. Sounded like you were hitting it pretty hard in the beginning.

I’ve been using our treadmill pretty consistantly now for over a year and I think the key was that when I first started I was only doing 20 to 30 minutes of just a mild walk. Nothing strenuous at all, but the key was that I was doing it.

Now it has become a habit. I can start a movie on Netflix and before I know it I’ve been running for one and a half hours and the movies over.

With the right amount of dedication you can still continue to lose weight with just the diet, but the exercising definitely helps speed it up a little along with the other benefits that you will get (stress relief, higher energy levels, better sleep, etc).

You’ve shown us all how committed you can be and your daughter must be really proud of you. Spring time is here (well, except in Michigan). Time to get outside and get active πŸ™‚

  18. Stephanie says:

Im about to start the weight watchers with my mother and im 4’11 weighting at 190 pounds and the only thing that doesnt make sense to me is the activity points chart. how many points should i have a day for the activity and is it added to or subtracted from my daily consumption points or does it have it own point catagory. && is the old very different from the new. I want to know if my points would be different from the old to the new && im female, not nursing, extremely lazy and 19

  19. Dan says:

Hi Stephanie, welcome to the site.

Here is how the activity points work. You earn extra points that you are able to eat each day by exercising. The points earned are only good for the day that you earned them and cannot be carried over to different days. The amount of points earned varies depending on your weight, how long you exercised for and how hard you exercised. Follow the steps below to determine how many activity points you earned:

    1. Refer to the chart at the top of the activity points page to determine the intensity of your workout
    2. Find the correct chart for the amount of time that you exercised
    3. Find your weight in that chart and scroll across to the appropriate workout intensity column
    4. The number in that column is how many extra points you get to eat that day (add to your daily total)

The points earned do vary depending on whether you are doing the old plan or the pointsplus plan, as well as the amount you are allowed each day. On the old plan I come up with 25 points for your daily total. On the points plus plan you would get 29. I hope this helps you out and best wishes with your goals. Let us know if you have any other questions

    Week 24:

    To date: -47lbs

  21. Katt1 says:

OMGosh I found heaven! KittKatt, well done! I have just worked out my points to be 32, it sounds high, I weigh (gulp) 285.6, I am 5’7″ and am 48. I have a sendentary lifestyle which I hope to change once I can move without huffing and puffing. FYI I moved to the US from England 7 years ago and have gained over 100 pounds!!!!!!! I used to have horses so was very active. I wanted a career change and am now doing online classes, it doesn’t help. I want to start today, it 12:43 and I haven’t eaten yet. That’s what happens. I fast during the day and then pig out whilst watching tv in bed at night. I love oatmeal w/splenda and sugerfree cocoa powder. How do I convert this into a good point value breakfast instead of a filling bowl of just something to eat at night? Sorry to ramble…..

  22. Dan says:

Hey there Katt1, welcome aboard! πŸ™‚

Daytime fasting is no good, it messes with the metabolism. My suggestion would be to save a good amount of your daily point allowance for dinner and divide the rest up thru out the day starting in the morning within an hour of waking.

Try to have something small every couple of hours, it helps keep your metabolism working at peak efficiency and helps keep you feeling more satisfied during the day. Make sure you stay within your daily point allowance and you will be surprised how fast you start to see a difference. Give us an update once in awhile and let us know how it’s going.

    Best wishes!

    week 25:
Okay guys I gained 3lbs this week. 3LBS!!!!! I was boohooing about it and my boyfriend is like, “well you’ve been kinda…uh…”irritable”(he even used the air quotes which means he meant bitchy) all week. Maybe your gonna get your period?” UHHHHH…thanks hon? It made me feel worse because then I was like “okay, I’m fat AND a bitch?!?!”. I know he meant well, but come on! Anyway enough of the rambling rant, I’m back at -44lbs. πŸ™

  24. KittKatt says:

Oh, and welcome Katt1! Good luck on your journey. This is the best website I’ve found that was free, Dan and the others here are really supportive. I love it and someone would have to offer me a huge amount of money or some free plastic surgery(I’ve been having some skin issues lately lol)for me to even consider going somewhere else.Anyway, i know you can do it! We all can! Yay us!!!

  25. bonnie says:

HI Dan, I seem to be stuck at a certain weight. I will lose 3 Lbs, and then gain back one or two in the same week. . I do eat my activity points during the day. I ‘m at 25 daily points. I’m 29 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, and as of this morning 149 lbs. I’m a stay at home mom who works out daily, and walk a lot during the day. I do use some of the weekly points on fridays when we go out to eat. I only have 20 lbs to go to reach my goal weight and it is very frustrating. I’m almost to the point of throwing in the towel and waving the white flag. Is there something I’m doing wrong?

    Thanks a bunch,
    Bonnie
