Help with my weight watchers!? by Beanta

I am losing motivation. I’m on weightwatchers and eating is getting harder and harder now that I am back at college. Is there any low point snacks I can eat and prepare quickly that stave off hunger?

Best Answer by Haphran

The ultimate goal of WW is to teach you how to make responsible choices when it comes time to eat. Now that you are back in school is the perfect time to put it to the test. I’m not sure how long you have been doing WW or how successful you have been, but all that hard work will be out the window in a matter of a few weeks if you quit now.

Here are some tips that may help (most I’m sure you’ve heard before):

1. Drink lots of water
2. Eat smaller meals more often throughout the day
3. Eat something every 2-3 hours to keep your metabolism going
4. Find some 0, 1 & 2 point snacks to help keep you satisfied. These include fruits, veggies, fat/sugar free Jell-o & gelatin’s, 100 calorie packs of assorted snacks.

Another trick you could use is try carrying around a Fiber One bar (2 points). They are very filling (eat with a lot of water) and can be used as a meal or to help fill you up before eating somewhere that you are afraid that you may go overboard. And don’t forget that you are allowed the 35 bonus points each week, just try not to over do it. Even doing a slightly modified version of WW is better than giving up completely. Good luck!

Askers Rating *****

Askers Comments: I’ve been doing WW for five weeks and it has been the most wonderful diet except that now I am back at school, I am finding it hard to keep up with my points. I have no intentions of giving up, though. WW has been too great to just abandon. Thanks for your support. (fiberone=good)

Is there life after Weight Watchers? by Evangelista da Messina

A friend has lost three and a half stone using Weight Watchers and has managed to keep it off – but at what cost. She only seems to eat weight watchers meals and snacks (expensive), kiddie size breakfast and always seems to have her WW points calculator to hand. We have a retirement buffet to attend tomorrow and I doubt she’ll be eating anything. She never treats herself to a takeaway meal. I think it is very sad.

Best Answer by Haphran

WW is not a diet that you do for 6 months and then quit. WW teaches you to eat responsibly and make smart decisions when it comes to food. You should continue to make those smart decisions for the rest of your life.

Though there are WW meals available you are by no means restricted to eating that stuff. I have never eaten one WW item in the 15 weeks that I have been doing it.

Actually that is what has helped me to have success with WW when every other diet has failed. I can eat anything that I want, including vending machine food if I so choose. But I must be accountable for that item, and if it comes down to sacrificing a whole meal so I can have that treat then it makes me think twice about eating that item.

Your friend should be commended for her dedication, and should not be pressured to eat items that she is probably having a hard time resisting in the first place.

Other Answer #1

Is it really her that is sad or you?

She has done well to loose weight and is happy to stay on a restricted diet. What on earth is wrong with that?

It seems to me that the problem isn’t this lady, but a society which trys to ram garbage down people’s throats 24/7. I say good luck to her.

Other Answer #2

There are two sides to this. Co-workers of mine were seriously addicted to Weight Watchers. They wouldn’t eat a vending machine bag of pretzels without calculating every last little piece of salt. But, they lost the weight.

So, they are doing their body good by losing and keeping the weight off. However, if they ever stop their obsessive habit they will likely gain the weight right back because they haven’t been exercising and cutting out bad eating habits… they have just found a way to manipulate them.

I also think it is very sad to not be able to eat a donut or cheeseburger. Those don’t make you gain weight unless all you do is sit around and eat a diet consisting only of fast food. It is possible to maintain a healthy weight, exercise and eat a fast food meal without gaining weight

have been on weight watchers for 6 months. I admit i have not been following the plan to detail. The fact is I lost ten pounds and I do enjoy the support, however the $40.00 a month could be spent on other things. What should I do ? quit and follow the plan or stay on and enjoy the support?

Best Answer by Haphran

I think you should stick with it, assuming you actually need to lose the weight (lots of people have a poor self image). Have you introduced any exercise into your weekly routine? If not you should start off with some light exercises for 20-30 minutes 3 times a week. This will help kick start your metabolism and motivation.

My wife stuck to it through the hard times (weeks that she gained and/or cheated) and has lost around 50 lbs. Now she is a lifetime member. Maybe you should try to find a friend to join with you to help keep you motivated. It should be more about your health than the $40 dollars a month. Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Answer by Flower

they dont tell u anything its crap and it doesnt work, all they say is count ur points and basically u can eat what u like aslong as u stay in ur points which that doesnt work. the only way to lose weight is to cut out carbs and sugars from ur diet until u hve lost it and then introduce them again slowly.

Best Answer by Haphran

Flower obviously doesn’t know anyone who’s life has been drastically changed by doing weight watchers.

The key to any weight loss program is watching what you eat. Weight Watchers just gives you an easy way of doing this, along with support provided at the meetings. You just need to figure out how many points you are allowed per day (usually 20-24 depending on age, sex height, weight and activity levels), and then just make sure you don’t go over that total for the day. You will find that the healthier the food is, the more you can eat, which helps you stay satisfied throughout the day.

I’m wondering about weight watchers? by bellababi44

I know alot of people who have done it and it worked im trying to lose a few pounds for the summer..but I don’t understand how it works, you can eat really anything you want as long as you don’t go over your points? Like there are no restrictions? As long as you stay within your points? So for example a small fry from McDonald’s (not that I want to eat it im just using it as an example lol) would be 230 calories 11 grams of fat 3grams of fiber is 5 points (I calculated it on the weight watchers online calculator) so you could eat this stuff and still lose weight? Please give me all the info you have thanks

Best Answer by Haphran

There really are no restrictions, which I believe is why so many people have been successful with it. My wife has lost around 50 lbs. One of the things that has helped her is that she doesn’t have to order off of a “special” menu when we go out to eat. She just has to plan ahead a little and control her portions. Our kids love Taco Bell and Wendy’s and on the days that she goes to her WW meetings they always stop for dinner. The main thing is that you will eventually learn that even though you can indulge in the McDonald’s stuff occasionally, you would rather not use so many points for one item when you could have several items and be more content. Good luck!

How much weight did you lose on Weight Watchers? by Fix You

I started the Weight Watchers points system 8 weeks ago and I’ve only lost 12lbs…I am a fairly large woman with 179lbs more to lose in order to get to my goal weight…I wish the weight would drop off faster…
I’d like to know from Weight Watchers clients (former or present), what were your results and how long did it take to reach your goal? If you used another means of weight loss, please share. I am just weighing out my options (no pun intended). Thank you in advance for your responses!

Best Answer by Haphran

Weight Watchers is set up to help you lose about 1-2 pounds a week. Generally the first couple weeks you will lose more but it is a slow but healthy process. I have been doing it for 16 weeks and have lost 22 pounds. My wife lost 50 in 6 months and has kept it off for 2 years now. She still counts points and we both will for the rest of our life. Not sure why Olivia thinks it can’t be done, it is basically just counting calories.

12 pounds in 8 weeks is a really good number. Don’t be discouraged that it is happening slowly cause if you quit it won’t happen at all. Here are some tips that may help:

1. You’ve lost 12 pounds – did you adjust your daily point allowance. Every time the 2nd digit of your weight changes you lose 1 point.

2. Only use the 35 weekly points if you have a special occasion such as a birthday party or such, and then use as little as possible.

3. If you haven’t started exercising this can really help kick start the weight loss. Start of slowly with a casual stroll as far as you can handle and work your way up from there.

4, Do not add extra points for exercising. Remember, the goal is to lose weight

5. Be sure you are calculating points correctly. If you have more than one serving of something you must recalculate the points multiplying the calories, fat & fiber by the number of servings.

Good luck and don’t throw in the towel. If you stick to the program there is no way that you won’t lose weight.

Good Luck!

Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem or Jenny Craig?

Best Answer by Haphran

Well, I don’t have any experience with Jenny Craig or Nutri-system, so I can’t really comment on those. I am currently doing WW and have had pretty good success so far. It’s been about 13 weeks and I am down around 21 lbs. My wife lost 50 lbs in 6 months and has kept it off over 2 years now. Here are some things that I like about WW

1. There is no special foods that you have to eat. You can calculate WW point values for anything that has a nutrition label on it. WW does offer a line of products which many people think you have to eat but you don’t.

2. There is no food that is off limits. WW stresses the importance of a healthy diet including fruits & veggies, but also understands that in the real world people are always exposed to situations that healthy choices may not be readily available (holiday dinners, birthdays, night out with friends…). As long as you are within your points you are good.

3. The cost is not as bad as many would have you believe. It averages out to about $10/week. Once you reach your goal weight you become a lifetime member (which is free) as long as you maintain the loss. I saved well over $10 a week just by changing my eating habits so I actually came out ahead here.

4. It’s alot easier counting points than it is calories and eventually you will memorize points for the things that you eat on a daily basis.

5. I don’t think of WW as a diet. This is the way that I am supposed to be eating, and this is the way that I will eat for the rest of my life. There is no ‘being done’.

Someone above mentioned Atkins which I tried several years ago. It was pretty easy at first and I had pretty good success with it, but there was just no way I could remain on such a restrictive diet.

I often here people say about Weight Watcher ‘what kind of diet would let you eat pizza?’ (or what ever). My response is ‘a realistic one’. One that does not set you up for failure by making you feel guilty about eating a piece of pizza or other foods that you love. You can eat anything you want in moderation. Good luck in whatever you choose!

Weight Watchers is basically a simplified way of keeping track of what you eat, while providing information and support. You can watch what you eat without joining ww. I would say that 1500 calories a day would be about right. Cut down on snacking, switch to diet beverages, drink lots of water and get some exercise everyday. No Weight Watchers Needed…

Weight watchers points system? by Hello <3

I started the weight watchers points system about 5 days ago. ive been doing everything right so far, exercising and writing down everything i eat in my journal. but i dont feel like its going to really work. any advice from poeple whove done this program? does it work? i would like to loose a few pounds before a trip im taking in the end of march, does anybody have any faster ways to loose weight that arent unhealthy.

Best Answer by Haphran

My wife lost about 50 lbs in the first 6 months of doing ww. But she did incorporate exercise in along with the dieting. It has been 2 years and she still counts points, still logs everything that she eats and still goes to the meetings once or twice a month. It has definitely become 2nd nature for her, I never see her use her point calculator anymore. If you are not exercising regularly at this time, I think that doing so would greatly improve your chances of meeting your goals.
