Weight Watchers Daily Point Quiz
The first step to a healthier you when doing Weight Watchers is to calculate how many points you are allowed each day. To find your daily point allowance simply take the short quiz below and calculate your totals. Remember that 18 is the least amount of points allowed in a day and 44 is the most. If you are new to Weight Watchers and are not sure how the program works, you can find an article here that explains the basics of how to do it.
Please note: This quiz is for the old POINTS plan (prior to December 2010). The new PointsPlus plan makes it a little more difficult to calculate your daily PointsPlus Target. At this time, to calculate your target you basically have 3 options – they will give it to you at your meeting, get it online using E-Tools or purchase a new PointsPlus Calculatorand enter your information.
Here is the old POINTS quiz: (Prior to December 2010)
1. Sex:
Female — 2pts
Male — 8pts
2. Age:
17-26 — 4pts
27-37 — 3pts
38-47 –2pts
48-58 — 1pt
Over 58 — 0pt
3. First two 2 digits of your current weight:
(Example: Weight 165 = 16pt or Weight 230 = 23pt)
4. Height
Under 5’1″: 0pts
5’1″ to 5’10”: 1pt
5’10” and over: 2pts
5. Daily Activity Levels:
Sitting: 0pts
Some Sitting, Mostly Standing: 2pts
Walking most of the time: 4pts
Doing physically hard work most of the time: 6pts
6. Nursing Mom?
Solely Nursing: 10 pts
Supplementing with solid food or formula: 5 pts
Keep in mind that as you lose weight you will also start to lose points. Whenever the 2nd digit of your weight changes so does your daily point allowance. For example, if you weighed 170 pounds one week and then 168 pounds the next week, the second digit changed from a 7 to a 6 so you lose 1 point from your daily total. This is to insure that the weight loss continues until you reach your goal weight.
In addition to your daily points you are also allowed 35 bonus points each week. It is recommended that you use these points for special occaisions such as a holiday dinner, birthday celebration, or other event. It is NOT recommended to divide the 35 points up among the days of the week giving yourself 5 extra points each day. Remember, the goal here is to lose weight.
I’m starting to do weight watchers on my own too and found a site that has a version of the points tracker in a pdf format that you can print yourself.

Great find Amanda! Thank you for the link!
Check out this site http://www.fatsecret.com It’s totally free and has a tool that allows you to input all your food eaten for the day and keeps track of your WW points for you. It already has most fast food entered into it or you can add new items and it will calculate the points for you. It also has a nice selection of recipes, a activity tracker, Challenges you can Join (example: Drop 25lbs for the Holidays), weight tracker, a journal you can record in, even apps for igoogle, facebook, and your phone. It’s really helping me in my journey so far.
Nice site Sarah. Thanks!
I lost all of my weight two years ago and have managed to keep it off until recently, I added about 2 lbs. I went back on the WW diet, but nothing’s happening! I’m confused. I can’t get those silly 2 lbs. off. Any ideas to what I am doing wrong? What can I do?
Hi Gayle and welcome to the site. Those last couple of pounds are always the most stubborn ones and I wouldn’t worry too much about it. In the right hand column is a link to my Weight Watchers tips page. I would take a look there first and see if anything stands out as a possible issue.
Below are some common problems
1. Not writing down everything that you eat
2. Not calculating food points correctly
3. Not getting enough exercise
4. Too many zero point items (s/b 5 max per day)
Let us know what you determine…maybe someone else has had a similar experience that could chime in.
Hello all, I am also starting Weight Watchers today. I have gained alot of weight since i had my 3rd child and would like to lose 50lbs.And I have a few books. I dont really know how the extra points work. And i been using sites like Felicia. Well im ready for a new me.
Welcome Analicia! We have a lot of new people jumping in here in the last week. If you stay dedicated to the program you will definitely succeed.
The bonus points are there for you to use on days where you may go over your daily limit (such as a holiday, birthday, etc). They kind of allow you to ‘cheat’ a little and still stay on program. Most people that I know try not to use them at all, as they can really slow down your weight loss. Good luck to you!!
Hi i am trying to do weight watcher on my own i have started the dite. I am on week 2 i have a lot of weight to lost i am hopeing that this web site will keep me going so i can stay on it.There is one think i would like to know has ww has changed the way thay do there points. And one more thing can you tell me if tomatoe juice and be used as a vegetables.Thank you for the help.
Hi Judy! From what I understand WW has changed the way that they calculate points. I wasn’t around for the old way but I think the only difference is that now you are only allowed to count the first 4 grams of fiber when calculating your points.
As far as the tomato juice goes, does it say on the container anywhere if it provides a serving of vegetables? I know V8 Fusion says on the package that it has 1 serving of fruit and 1 serving of vegetables. If it doesn’t say so I would say, no…
Thanks for visiting the site!
Hi, I just started WW on my own. I want to lose 15 pounds. It may not be a lot, but I want to lose it before it becomes more! Glad to have found your site, and hope to find some encouragement here.
Hi Beth! 15 pounds should not take long at all if you are dedicated to the program. Welcome to the site and good luck with your goals!
Hey I started weight watchers last week and Im down 2lbs!!!!! Yay!!!! On the road to getting my sexy back!!!
Great job Analicia!
Hello All
Its me again for some reason I can’t find the points for 10 pita chips. They are salted.
Hi Felicia,
What brand? I found Kangaroo sea salt pita chips..1 serv.(11 chips) 110 cal. 3g of fat 1g fiber = 2pts per serving. I also found New York Style baked lightly salted pita chips… 1 serv. (7 chips) 130 cal. 5g of fat 1g fiber = 3pts per serving. All you need to do is calculate the cal. fat and fiber content of whichever brand you buy and it will provide you with the points per serving.
Good luck
Hi Dan,
I would like to take this time to thank you for this website. I was on weight watchers many years ago and it works. I truly believe in communicating with others and helping them through the process of counting points. It is important to have a support group whether you attend meetings or just online as in your website. Thanks again and I hope its no bother if I can be of any help.
Good luck to all
Felicia,
In addition to the ones that Angel listed above I also know that Trader Joes Sea Salt Pita Chips are 2 points for 7 (not sure of the nutrition info). I would think you are looking at 2-3 points depending on the serving size.
Angel,
Thanks for chiming in here (and for the kind words). I really do appreciate it and feel free to anytime. When I started the site it never dawned on me that the comments/questions would take off like they have and I’m half tempted to create a page just for them – to keep them all in one area instead of all over the site. Thanks again for jumping in and helping!
Does anyone know how to count Deer Meat if so please let me know. Thanks
Hi, I would like to find out more about the 35 weekly points. I am allowed to eat 23 daily points, but I eat 20 and add 5 weekly points each day. I’m losing very slowly even though I am doing some exercise. I am still eating too much? If I eat less I feel deprived and over eat. I’d love some advice
Thanks
Hey Judy, Here is what I have for venison:
3 oz chop, cooked – 4 points
3 oz, stewed – 3 points
1 oz jerky – 2 points
3.8 oz slice of meatloaf – 3
4 oz of venison stew – 2 points
These were calculated using nutrition info contained in ‘The Biggest Loser Complete Calorie Counter”. Not sure what the difference is between stewed venison and venison stew…
Hi there Tash, the one thing that I was told at my meetings not to do with the 35 points was divide it up evenly among the days of the week. That will definitely slow down any progress.
I try not to use any of them and when I do use some(birthday party and such) I use as little as possible.
There are some articles on this page that may offer some guideance on how to get through the feeling of being deprived. Maybe someone else can chime in with some other advice…
Discouraged…
This is my second week on weight watchers and I have been eating healthy and I gained one pound this week…sad
Don’t give in Felicia! I’m looking at a gain this week, also. It happens…it just means it’s time to re-commit and work even harder for a loss next week.
I’m a big fan of the the show ‘The Biggest Loser’ and what they run into every year is that week two is the hardest week to lose weight. Many of the contestants lose very little even though they are in the gym 8 hours a day with a personal trainer. If it’s hard for them it should be really hard for us.
Please don’t get discouraged so early on. You can succeed at this!
I was so happy to find this site. I have been doing WW on my own for 1 month and have a loss of 9 lbs. My goal is 35 lbs total so I’m on my way! I really agree with not using all your flex points for the week! It makes a huge difference. I keep telling myself that it took me 5 years to put this weight on so I know it’s not all gonna come off overnight. It’s a process, and will eventually pay off!
