Weight Watchers Daily Point Quiz

The first step to a healthier you when doing Weight Watchers is to calculate how many points you are allowed each day. To find your daily point allowance simply take the short quiz below and calculate your totals. Remember that 18 is the least amount of points allowed in a day and 44 is the most. If you are new to Weight Watchers and are not sure how the program works, you can find an article here that explains the basics of how to do it.

Please note: This quiz is for the old POINTS plan (prior to December 2010). The new PointsPlus plan makes it a little more difficult to calculate your daily PointsPlus Target. At this time, to calculate your target you basically have 3 options – they will give it to you at your meeting, get it online using E-Tools or purchase a new PointsPlus Calculatorand enter your information.

Here is the old POINTS quiz: (Prior to December 2010)

1. Sex:
Female — 2pts
Male — 8pts

2. Age:
17-26 — 4pts
27-37 — 3pts
38-47 –2pts
48-58 — 1pt
Over 58 — 0pt

3. First two 2 digits of your current weight:
(Example: Weight 165 = 16pt or Weight 230 = 23pt)

4. Height
Under 5’1″: 0pts
5’1″ to 5’10”: 1pt
5’10” and over: 2pts

5. Daily Activity Levels:
Sitting: 0pts
Some Sitting, Mostly Standing: 2pts
Walking most of the time: 4pts
Doing physically hard work most of the time: 6pts

6. Nursing Mom?
Solely Nursing: 10 pts
Supplementing with solid food or formula: 5 pts

Keep in mind that as you lose weight you will also start to lose points. Whenever the 2nd digit of your weight changes so does your daily point allowance. For example, if you weighed 170 pounds one week and then 168 pounds the next week, the second digit changed from a 7 to a 6 so you lose 1 point from your daily total. This is to insure that the weight loss continues until you reach your goal weight.

In addition to your daily points you are also allowed 35 bonus points each week. It is recommended that you use these points for special occaisions such as a holiday dinner, birthday celebration, or other event. It is NOT recommended to divide the 35 points up among the days of the week giving yourself 5 extra points each day. Remember, the goal here is to lose weight.

Hey Jess! Welcome to the site and congrats on your great start. Sometimes it really amazes how much work it is to be successful at losing weight and how fast all that hardwork can be undone. Keep up the good work!

Hey Dan, What a great site. I’ve been thinking about doing ww for some time now. I went to a free meeting and didn’t have a good experience. When I asked a couple of questions on how the point system worked, I was told I would have to join to find out. So that really turn me off. So I’m still thinking about given it a try on my own. So thanks for all the info on your site.

    Hi,

I’m just curious if those point totals given are a maximum number or a recommended number? I am alotted more points than I usually need in a day, but some people have told me that you lose weight better on the program by sticking right at the point total given to you. Any thoughts?

  4. Dan says:

Hi Sabrina & Jason! Thanks for checking out the site.

Sabrina: Sorry to here about your bad experience at the meeting. I can’t believe they would treat a possible new member like that. I’m constantly adding more info to the site so hopefully you will find everything that you need here.

Jason: I have always been told that you should aim to eat all of your daily point allowance each day. You don’t have to force yourself to eat them all, just get as close as possible. If you are worried that it is too much you could always make up the difference by exercising a little more.

Thanks again for visiting the site and feel free to chime in on any discussions that you find.

    Hi everyone!

Dan – This site is awesome! Thanks so much for all of your work, and CONGRATS on your weight loss – way to go!!

I have heard nothing but good things about WW, and a friend from work has recently lost 25 lbs in 2 months and looks amazing!

I am 26 and have a an almost 4 year old and a 16 month old and have kept on 5 lbs with both of them. This may not seem like a lot, but I am a small person, and to me, it matters…especially because I want to start trying to have another baby at the end of the summer, and can’t imagine adding an additional 5 lbs on top of what I am now after that baby is born….

My goal is to loose 15 lbs by the summer so that I can be in good health, good shape, and feeling good about myself before I get pregnant again. I’d also like to be the mom of 3 who can wear a bikini confidently one day!!! 🙂

This is day 2 of doing WW without joining and it’s beed not too bad so far. I am going to go to a free meeting tomorow.

Looking forward to doing this! 🙂

  6. Dan says:

Hey there Fit Momma! 25 pounds in 2 months is an amazing number, your friend must be really committed. Your goal of 15 pounds by summer is definitely an achievable goal and you should have no problem getting there…you seem to be very motivated.

Good luck with the meeting and let us know how the progress goes. Thanks for visiting!

ANy advice would be great.!!

  8. Dan says:

Welcome to the site Heather and good luck with your goals. I’m no pro, just another WW fan on a mission! LOL

You are correct about the 0 point items still having calories. Weight Watchers recommends that you limit 0 point items to 5 servings per day for that reason.

Thanks for visiting the site and feel free to leave a comment anytime.

If anyone would be willing to help out the site by writing a quick review, please click here. It only has to be a sentence or two and you should be completely honest, I will take the good with the bad. Thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to do it!

I noticed that your Outback page says that they do not have nutrion facts availabe. Just thought I would let you know that they do now, with a semi-interative system. Just a few things you should know though, I work at Outback and we have a new menu coming out in April that will have a good number of new items on it. Also note that leaving the butter of the veggies makes a HUGE difference and they will put it on them automatically unless you ask for it to be left off.

Oh and thanks for this site, its great. I’ve done WW with my mom in past and It help me alot. Now my husband and I are about to start it again. (me more as support for him).

  11. Dan says:

Thanks for visiting the site, Faye! And thanks for the great info about outback, I will add it to my ‘to do’ list…man, that thing keeps getting longer and longer.

Good luck to you guys with WW. My wife provides me allot of support, too. I couldn’t do it without her.

  12. Jazmin says:

Hey, I visiting dotties website and browesed thru the resturants… me and my sister in law just started weight watchers… but me and my husband are addicted to wingstop and constantly eat at that resturant. However ur site, nor dotties has it listed. Is there any way you could add it? Im particularly interstead in the boneless lemon-pepper fries & ranch.

    Wing-stop fanatic! xD

  13. Dan says:

Hi Jazmin! I checked out wingstop’s site (wish there was one in Michigan)and was not able to find nutrition info for any of their items. I sent an email asking for them to forward me any info that they have, we’ll see what happens…thanks for stopping by!

  14. Dan says:

Here is the reply from Wingstop…

“We really appreciate your inquiry regarding nutritional information on our menu items but we regret to say that currently we do not have that information available. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

  15. Amy says:

  19. Danielle says:

I just had my second baby on the March 12th and so far I lost almost all the weight that i gain from that pregancy(just 4 more lbs). But I want to lose another 20lbs by the summer with my boyfriend. We will start WW tomorrow. Dan do u have any sugguest on how to keep on track when i go back to work soon and with my boyfriend on a different work shift?

  20. Dan says:

Hi Danielle, great job with the baby weight. Staying on track at work was pretty difficult. I have limited myself to only going out for lunch once a week, and when I do it is always Subway. The rest of the week I brown bag it and leave my cash at home so that I don’t get talked into going out or hit the snack machine.

For breakfast I keep a box of fiber on bars at my desk. They are actually quite filling.

Twenty pounds by summer is pretty big goal but if you are 100% committed to the program you can definitely make it. Good luck to you guys!

  21. Karin says:

OK..so I have finally made the big decision to do something about my weight. I could stand to lose a good 35 pounds. I just turned 60, and recently retired so I no longer get as much exercise as I used to. Got any tips for the “older” crowd? Can I expect the weight to come off more slowly due to my age?

  22. Dan says:

Hi Karin! I always heard that age is an important factor in weight loss, mostly because of your metabolism which start slowing dramatically after age 30. But don’t let that slow you down.

Sixty is still a young age for retirement and frees up a lot of time for activity. It doesn’t even have to be traditional forms of exercise…gardening, walking nature trails/malls, biking, whatever you want to do as long as you are doing something. Keeping active will help maximize the amount that you lose while doing weight watchers.

Don’t lock yourself into any certain time frame to accomplish your goals. Just make the change for the better and enjoy your retirement. If you stick to it the weight loss will come. Good luck to you and let us know how it’s going once in a while.

  23. julie says:

    hello
I am trying to lose approximately 20 lbs and did weight watchers in past when there was a different point system – no bonus points – anyhow, I cant remember what happens if you do not use up all of your daily alloted points? Do you store them for a heavy eating day? or does it affect your weight loss?

    thanks

  24. Dan says:

Hi Julie and thanks for visiting the site. You should be using most (if not all) of your daily points to insure that your metabolism functions at its maximum efficiency. Unused points expire at the end of the day.

The 35 bonis points should be used for heavy eating days or dinner parties, etc. You do not have to use the 35 bonus points, they are just there for you if you need them. Good luck with your goals!

  25. Dan says:

Hi everyone, I found a site that may be useful for you if you make a lot of things from scratch and have a hard time figuring out the points. Here is the link…

Copy and paste your recipe into the box, enter the number of servings then hit analyze. Seems like it works pretty good, but I had to tweek a couple of item names before it found them. It will give you the nutrition information for each serving which you can then use to calculate points. Just thought I’d share.
