Weight Watchers Daily Point Quiz

The first step to a healthier you when doing Weight Watchers is to calculate how many points you are allowed each day. To find your daily point allowance simply take the short quiz below and calculate your totals. Remember that 18 is the least amount of points allowed in a day and 44 is the most. If you are new to Weight Watchers and are not sure how the program works, you can find an article here that explains the basics of how to do it.

Please note: This quiz is for the old POINTS plan (prior to December 2010). The new PointsPlus plan makes it a little more difficult to calculate your daily PointsPlus Target. At this time, to calculate your target you basically have 3 options – they will give it to you at your meeting, get it online using E-Tools or purchase a new PointsPlus Calculatorand enter your information.

Here is the old POINTS quiz: (Prior to December 2010)

1. Sex:
Female — 2pts
Male — 8pts

2. Age:
17-26 — 4pts
27-37 — 3pts
38-47 –2pts
48-58 — 1pt
Over 58 — 0pt

3. First two 2 digits of your current weight:
(Example: Weight 165 = 16pt or Weight 230 = 23pt)

4. Height
Under 5’1″: 0pts
5’1″ to 5’10”: 1pt
5’10” and over: 2pts

5. Daily Activity Levels:
Sitting: 0pts
Some Sitting, Mostly Standing: 2pts
Walking most of the time: 4pts
Doing physically hard work most of the time: 6pts

6. Nursing Mom?
Solely Nursing: 10 pts
Supplementing with solid food or formula: 5 pts

Keep in mind that as you lose weight you will also start to lose points. Whenever the 2nd digit of your weight changes so does your daily point allowance. For example, if you weighed 170 pounds one week and then 168 pounds the next week, the second digit changed from a 7 to a 6 so you lose 1 point from your daily total. This is to insure that the weight loss continues until you reach your goal weight.

In addition to your daily points you are also allowed 35 bonus points each week. It is recommended that you use these points for special occaisions such as a holiday dinner, birthday celebration, or other event. It is NOT recommended to divide the 35 points up among the days of the week giving yourself 5 extra points each day. Remember, the goal here is to lose weight.

If you are interested in sharing your story, there is a spot in the forums where you could write about it (you could be the 1st). It may end up being the inspiration that somebody needs to finally take the steps needed to live a healthier life.

    Hello Dan!
This website is fantastic!! I began ww four days ago(on my own due to financial reasons) and am a little nervous I wont lose the weight I want(20lbs by Sept for a family cruise). Reading all these posts of people who are also nervous but still pushing on, as well as your words of encouragement have really given me confidence that I am not alone, and I can do it, too!! Thanks for this great site! I will be checking in often!! Love and Blessings!

  6. Dan says:

Thank you Daliyah. Twenty pounds by september is a pretty aggressive goal but with a little commitment and dedication you should have no problem reaching it. You are not alone! This whole site is dedicated to people like us and gets a thousand visitors a day from around the world all looking for the same thing – a little help and encouragement while losing weight…definitely not alone ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Thanks for visiting!

I wonder if anyone has tried this with having the lap band. I have it and no diet has really helped me, I am going to try this and I hope I have some success. I do not have a good support group so I may go to the meetings. I would welcome any remarks.
    Thanks
    Kim

  8. Dan says:

Hi Kimberly! I have no personal experience with the lap band so I will let others comment on that. As far as support groups go, I highly recommend joining WW for people that need the extra support provided by attending the meetings. It can be a real motivator. We also have a new forum on the site that I created to try to create an ‘online’ support group for those looking for something like that. It doesn’t cost anything and everyone is welcome if you are interested. Best wishes!!

Hey I’m just starting to use the weight watcher points system. I’ve got a new notebook to carry around with me so I can keep track of what I eat. Im not an actual member of weight watchers but hopefully that wont matter. Have you got any advice, i’ve literally just started it today.
    Cheers

  10. Dan says:

Hi Hayley, welcome to the club! Here are a couple of tips for beginners that I can think of:

    1. Exercise! Doesn’t matter what or how long, if it is more than what you did before it will help speed up the weight loss

    2. Don’t stop writing things down! Seems this is always the first step to ending the weight loss

    3. Pick a day and time for your weigh ins and stick to it. You can check your weight everyday if you want but only use the official day for tracking your progress

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head…maybe someone else can chime in with some other ideas

    Hello :]
My sister Sylvie ; has been doing Weight Watchers and lost
    14 pounds.!
    Its really a huge difference.
She now fits into her jeans she did when she
    was 16.! :]

Also, She wakes up around 7:00am
& takes a walk every morning.

    Shes in great shape .

  12. Dan says:

Hi Melanie, welcome to the site and I hope you found what you were looking for! Congrats to your sister on a job well done! ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. Ronda says:

I am so grateful to find this site. It has everything I need all in one convenient place. Thank you so much! I have been on WW for 15 days and I have lost 10 lbs already!

  14. Dee says:

Hi I’m Danielle, I just started WW on my own today. I can’t afford to go to meetings. I figured out I have 22 points per day, I want to loose 20 lbs by November. My mom used to do weight watchers and she said something about Flex Points? What are they and how do they work?

  15. Noe says:

    Hello,

Just found this website and reckon it’s really useful!
I’m following WW in Ireland and the allowence points a day for me are 16 but here is 19.
Could someone give me a reason?

    Thanking you.

    N.

  16. Dan says:

    Welcome to the site all!

Ronda – WOW!! 10 pounds is awesome! Keep up the good work and don’t get discouraged when that number starts to get lower.

Dee – The flex points are the 35 weekly bonus points that were refered to in the last paragraph above. In a nutshell, you have 35 extra points that you are allowed to eat each week to help get you through the hard times. Try not to use them if you don’t have to and don’t divide them up giving yourself 5 extra points each day. If you use them sparingly (only special occasions) you will be fine

Noe – The info listed on this site is definitely from the US version of the program. I’m not sure how well it compares with the Irish version, I guess I assumed it would be the same. In our version the least amount of points allowed is 18. Maybe you could stop by one of your meeting centers to see if they could explain the difference. Sorry I couldn’t help ๐Ÿ™

  17. Noe says:

    Hello Dan,

Thx I think I’ve got the answer.
The US uses lb and we use St, that makes a difference when calcutating the allowence ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hi, I started doing WW on my own on Monday of this week. i have already removed 3 pounds and it is saturday. do you think that is normal or am i removing to much weight too fast? I exercise daily and use all of my daily points. I also drink eight glasses of water a day. Thanks a lot for this website and your reply.

  19. Dan says:

    Hi again, Bonnie.

3 pounds is a great start to WW, many people lose more than that in the first week. As long as you are sticking to your point allowance you will be fine. You may have another big loss next week to but it will start to even out and then you can count on about 1 to 2 pounds a week after that. Keep up the good work!

  20. Marianne says:

I am thrilled to find this website. I have been on Weight Watchers for a year and lost 52 pounds. The last few months I have not had a loss and it has been really hard getting back on track. Hopefully, this site and community will assist in getting me motivated before I start gaining it back. Thanks.

  21. Dan says:

Hi Marianne, glad you finally found us!! You’ve definitely had great success with WW, maybe you can help some of us, also ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. Jennifer says:

Ok today is the day… I weighed myself and weigh 204.2 pounds. Up from 165 when I got married… I have got to do something. The stress of life in general and the unexpected have really done a job on me… I am only 32.. now to top it off since being laid off in September of 09 I have gained another 10 lbs. I am really depressed about it … I don’t know if it bothers my husband he doesn’t act like it does but it does bother me. My goal is to be 145 lbs.. which is a healthy weight for me at 5’6 and a half inches… lol… I am back in school and working on a degree so I am staying motivated with that… now it is time to work on ME>>>> I am hoping I can get so mojo going from this site… So as of today starting at 204.2 lbs I am going to make the change… I am allowed 24 points and I will use the smartone to help me get going… any hints anyone wants to send my way greatly appreciated… as I am still unemployed.. I cannot afford WW…. lots of love to everyone on this and that have traveled this path… it is something I have struggled with since my first child at 19. Thanks for listening.

  23. Dan says:

Hi Jennifer!! Your stats are almost exactly the same as my wifes (who’s name is also Jennifer) when she started weight watchers. She was very successful and has kept her weight in the lower 130’s for 3 or 4 years now and has never been healthier. Sounds like you are approaching this with the right kind of attitude and that will help guarantee your success. I hope you find what you need here on the site. Good luck!

  24. Steph says:

From what I remember (I used to go 3 years ago) my leader encouraged people to use their weekly points unless they aren’t losing. A lot of people don’t eat enough. This can make weight loss stall for some. It’s good to change some up by using your some/most of the extra weekly points if you haven’t along with changing your exercise.

  25. Dan says:

Hi Steph, welcome aboard! That’s interesting that your leader said to use the points, mine said to avoid using them unless absolutely needed. I wonder what the ‘official’ weight watchers policy is on this, I will have to try and find my first book to see what it says about them. If anyone else has any info feel free to chime in…

I have also heard that changing your exercise and eating habits through out the week can help keep your metabolism operating at peak efficiency, that’s great advice.
