Weight Watchers Daily Point Quiz

The first step to a healthier you when doing Weight Watchers is to calculate how many points you are allowed each day. To find your daily point allowance simply take the short quiz below and calculate your totals. Remember that 18 is the least amount of points allowed in a day and 44 is the most. If you are new to Weight Watchers and are not sure how the program works, you can find an article here that explains the basics of how to do it.

Please note: This quiz is for the old POINTS plan (prior to December 2010). The new PointsPlus plan makes it a little more difficult to calculate your daily PointsPlus Target. At this time, to calculate your target you basically have 3 options – they will give it to you at your meeting, get it online using E-Tools or purchase a new PointsPlus Calculatorand enter your information.

Here is the old POINTS quiz: (Prior to December 2010)

1. Sex:
Female — 2pts
Male — 8pts

2. Age:
17-26 — 4pts
27-37 — 3pts
38-47 –2pts
48-58 — 1pt
Over 58 — 0pt

3. First two 2 digits of your current weight:
(Example: Weight 165 = 16pt or Weight 230 = 23pt)

4. Height
Under 5’1″: 0pts
5’1″ to 5’10”: 1pt
5’10” and over: 2pts

5. Daily Activity Levels:
Sitting: 0pts
Some Sitting, Mostly Standing: 2pts
Walking most of the time: 4pts
Doing physically hard work most of the time: 6pts

6. Nursing Mom?
Solely Nursing: 10 pts
Supplementing with solid food or formula: 5 pts

Keep in mind that as you lose weight you will also start to lose points. Whenever the 2nd digit of your weight changes so does your daily point allowance. For example, if you weighed 170 pounds one week and then 168 pounds the next week, the second digit changed from a 7 to a 6 so you lose 1 point from your daily total. This is to insure that the weight loss continues until you reach your goal weight.

In addition to your daily points you are also allowed 35 bonus points each week. It is recommended that you use these points for special occaisions such as a holiday dinner, birthday celebration, or other event. It is NOT recommended to divide the 35 points up among the days of the week giving yourself 5 extra points each day. Remember, the goal here is to lose weight.

    DeAnna, Congrats! That’s awesome πŸ™‚

    Keep up the good work!

Darin, thanks for using the site and taking the time to leave a comment. Congrats on your success, 40 pounds is an awesome number πŸ™‚

    Keep up the great work!

  3. Angie says:

Are we supposed to round our points up if our WW calculator gives you a value with a .5 after it. For example, is 2.5 supposed to be rounded up to 3?

Also I can’t determine my daily activity points on question number 5. I exercise 2 times a week for about an hour and work in and office mostly sitting but some walking.

  4. Dan says:

Hi Angie, your calculator shows half points? We’ve had a few different ones over the years between my wife and I and they have all only shown whole numbers. I would round up if I was you as I assume that is what our calculators have been doing but I suppose it would be fine either way.

As for the point quiz, I would give yourself 0 points for activity because of the office work. Exercise is counted seperately on a daily basis and should not be considered when trying to figure out how many points you get, only your daily routine. Thanks for visiting and sorry for taking so long to get back with ya πŸ™‚

  5. Angi says:

Thanks Dan. So that means I have to do 18 points a day… eeek. I do not count activity points because it was suggested not to use exercise points or the extra 35 flex points (I’ll save the 35 points for holidays). I figured that since I’m not a couch potato and exercise and walk to and from the bus, go shopping, go out with friends, etc… I would give myself 1 point for question number 5. That would give me 19 points. 18 is so low!

Thanks for this site!! I have been looking for ww info—we just dont have the funds for me to join right now but really need to loose weight!! I have met a few people that follow it that their stories amaze me……if I tallied my pts right I get alot of pts!! wow! I better recheck lol my 10 percent goal is 31 pts and have been working out at curves now for 3 weeks straight—-so hoping to stick with this!!

  7. Dan says:

I don’t blame ya, Angi. I was only considering the office job when I suggested the 0 points. An active lifestyle out of work can definitely make a difference. Even 19 points seems really low to me…I would starve…LOL

  8. Dan says:

Hello Rhonda! Soon you will have your own success story to share and help motivate others to start living healthier. I think you will find the program quite easy to stick with. Check in once in awhile and let us know how it’s going. Best wishes!!

  9. Angie says:

What if I eat alot of zero point veggies? I like to make green smoothies. So if I have a smoothie with 1/2 cucumber, 3 leaves of romain lettuce, one celery stick, an a handful if spinach… Will that still be 0 points total? Or say I have a smoothie with a larger cucumber and 2 handfuls of spinach? 0 points total?

I’m not doing the momentum program. The Momentum Program seems like alot of preperation!

  10. Dan says:

The official WW stance on 0 point items is you are only allowed five 0 point items per day. Not saying that you can’t eat more than five, but that after five you have to start counting them as points. So if you are putting 5 servings worth of 0 point items in your smoothies you could have one smoothie a day worth 0 points. After that you would have to start counting them as points.

  11. Angie says:

I gained 2 pounds this week and I was really strict on my points!

I would like to vent because I think I’m going to stop Weight Watchers soon. I have felt edgy since I started this program. And I think because it’s all of the easy to count processes / high sodium foods that I’ve been eating. I could eat other things like grilled chicken, ect. but they are not easy to calculate points. And I have to stay home every day and night because eating out is not easy to calculate either. But I can handle that for a little bit. But the main thing is I just don’t feel good. So I am assuming it’s the food, like the Smart Ones and the WW foods.

    2 weeks/2 days and lost 13 lbs so far….WhooHoo!!!

  13. Rada says:

    Hi again Dan,

I am so sorry to always bother u, but u have helped me so much !!

    Quick question. So I did the points allowance quiz and I get 20 Pts…..is that right I am female (2pts) age 24 (4pts) 135 weight (13 pts) height 5’6 (1 pt) and 0 activity pts = 20 Pts…..right?

So does this mean I can have 20 points a day and have 35 flex pts on top of that ? Will I still lose weight if I use ALL my flex points?? And 20 pts a day seems like sooo much…..am I doing something wrong?

  14. Dan says:

Wow!! Awesome results so far Kitt Katt!! Keep up the GREAT work πŸ™‚

  15. Dan says:

Hi Angie, sorry for the delay in responding, it’s been a crazy couple weeks at my ‘real’ job so I have kind of been neglecting the site. I’m sorry to hear that you are becoming frustrated with your progress. I can definitely sympathize with you as I have had a lot of ups and downs myself of late.

If you are not feeling well then you may be right to quit the program. In general, you could continue to use what you have learned while on ww to help be healthier without actually counting points. Stuff like smaller portion sizes, lots of fresh fruits & veggies, lean cuts of meats, whole grain breads and lots of water. Mix in a little exercise and as long as you are watching your portions sizes you should still see pretty decent results. Good luck in whatever you decide to do and let us know how it’s going once in awhile.

  16. Dan says:

Hello Rada! It’s always a pleasure hearing from you so stop apologizing! πŸ˜‰

Sounds like you have the points calculated correctly. Trust me, 20 points may sound like a lot but there are many people that have a hard time keeping it at 30!

As far as the flex points go, we were told in our meetings to kind of keep away from them unless absolutely necessary. Lately, though, I have been hearing that it is better to use them all each week and that it actually helps you lose weight as you get closer to your goal. Remember, though, it’s 35 points for the whole week πŸ™‚

Thanks for using the site, Rada, and I look forward to hearing from you again!

  17. Angie says:

Thanks, Dan, for responding. It’s nice of you to help on the message boards. I’m feeling better. I think it may have been something else causing me to feel bad. But I’ve also been trying to eat healthier like fruit smoothies and vegatble smoothies.

I’m at 18 points and it’s really frustrating to stick to 18 points! I feel so restricted. So now I’m confused about the Flex points. I don’t use them. But now you mentioned that you heard it’s good to use them?

  18. Dan says:

Glad you feel better Angie. 18 points is pretty low and would be very hard to stick with without the flex points. The first I heard of using them all was in a post above by Steph on August 11th.

I started a discussion in the forum to see what others were told about flex points in their meetings but there was only one responce which was from Wendy. She said:

“I use them plus my AP’s and I have lost very well.

When I first started a Lifer said use all your points coming to you so that when you get to goal you can maintain on High points.

It also makes the program more livable for life. It even states in the book they are meant to be used.

I also do not deprive my self of anything.

I already know I will be able to eat hight points when I get to goal. I should only be eating 19 right now and I am eating 26 and still losing.”

Kind of makes sense looking at the long term picture.

  19. Angie says:

One lady told me we are all different and that some of us need to use the Flex points to lose weight. She said she needs them in order for it to make her lose.

I might try tacking on a few points every day, that way I don’t feel so deprived and will be able to stick to it. Otherwise I will keep messing up! I’ll try, but last week I stuck to 18 points perfectly and gained about 1-2 lbs!

  20. Crystie says:

Will this site change to keeo up with the new ww plan or will it stay the same for those of us who do not want to switch to the new plan?

  21. Dan says:

    Hello Crystie, great question.

At this point in time my plan is to try to accomodate both plans with a completely different section of the site devoted to the new plan. Most of my efforts will probably still be devoted to the current point system, though, as that is what I am more familiar with and I know there will always be people needing this info.

  22. KittKatt says:

Six weeks and I’ve lost 20 pounds. It just seems really slow anf kinda frustrating. like the last 2 weeks I haven’t lost at all. Anyone have any ideas to re-jumpstart the weight loss?

  23. Dan says:

20 pounds is awesome, KittKatt!! πŸ™‚

And doing it in 6 weeks is definitely not slow (if anything that is probably a little too much). There is no finish line that you need to reach in a certain amount of time. Just stick to the program, get a little exercise and your body will do the rest. As far as the last 2 weeks goes, your body has gone through a big change in a short amount of time. Give it time to adjust and you will be right back on track.

ps – Weight Watchers is set up to help you lose .5 to 2 pounds per week so accordingly in 6 weeks even a 12 pound loss would be a great success! Keep up the good work

  24. KittKatt says:

Thanks Dan! It was 7 weeks not six, that was a typo.Apparantly all my weight has been lost in my fingers and they no longer work lol. BTW, I love your website and tell all my friends about it(the best is the recipe analyzer!).I have convinced my mom, aunt, and cousin to WW with me and they’re doing great too.

  25. KittKatt says:

Down another 3lbs. That makes it 8 weeks and 23lbs so far. BTW, I STILL love this site Dan lol.
