Weight Watchers Daily Point Quiz
The first step to a healthier you when doing Weight Watchers is to calculate how many points you are allowed each day. To find your daily point allowance simply take the short quiz below and calculate your totals. Remember that 18 is the least amount of points allowed in a day and 44 is the most. If you are new to Weight Watchers and are not sure how the program works, you can find an article here that explains the basics of how to do it.
Please note: This quiz is for the old POINTS plan (prior to December 2010). The new PointsPlus plan makes it a little more difficult to calculate your daily PointsPlus Target. At this time, to calculate your target you basically have 3 options – they will give it to you at your meeting, get it online using E-Tools or purchase a new PointsPlus Calculatorand enter your information.
Here is the old POINTS quiz: (Prior to December 2010)
1. Sex:
Female — 2pts
Male — 8pts
2. Age:
17-26 — 4pts
27-37 — 3pts
38-47 –2pts
48-58 — 1pt
Over 58 — 0pt
3. First two 2 digits of your current weight:
(Example: Weight 165 = 16pt or Weight 230 = 23pt)
4. Height
Under 5’1″: 0pts
5’1″ to 5’10”: 1pt
5’10” and over: 2pts
5. Daily Activity Levels:
Sitting: 0pts
Some Sitting, Mostly Standing: 2pts
Walking most of the time: 4pts
Doing physically hard work most of the time: 6pts
6. Nursing Mom?
Solely Nursing: 10 pts
Supplementing with solid food or formula: 5 pts
Keep in mind that as you lose weight you will also start to lose points. Whenever the 2nd digit of your weight changes so does your daily point allowance. For example, if you weighed 170 pounds one week and then 168 pounds the next week, the second digit changed from a 7 to a 6 so you lose 1 point from your daily total. This is to insure that the weight loss continues until you reach your goal weight.
In addition to your daily points you are also allowed 35 bonus points each week. It is recommended that you use these points for special occaisions such as a holiday dinner, birthday celebration, or other event. It is NOT recommended to divide the 35 points up among the days of the week giving yourself 5 extra points each day. Remember, the goal here is to lose weight.
KittKatt – THAT IS AWESOME!!! Congrats and keep up the good work π
Thanks for visiting!!
Just started weight watchers new program on 12/02/2010 lost 3.6 the first week and just 1.6 the second week. Need all the help I can get. trying really hard need to lose about 50 pounds.
Week 9, another 4lbs. That’s 27lbs to date. I’m freaking loving WW and I’m glad I’m able to do it on my own.
Look at you, KittKatt! Weren’t you ready to throw in the towel a couple of weeks ago???
Keep doing what you’re doing…it’s workin’ for ya π
ALOT of thanks to this site Dan! If everything wasn’t so easy to look up and find it wouldn’t be so easy for me to do it. Plus, the fact that you regularly check in and comment REALLY helps. There’s nothing i love more than someone giving me props for something LOL.
My pleasure, KittKatt. Knowing that I may actually be helping somebody out there is what motivates me to keep the site going. Comments like yours really make my day! Happy holidays to you and yours π
Week 10, another 2lbs. That’s 29lbs to date. Now that I made it through Thanksgiving week and Christmas week, I know that I can make it through tough weeks, parties, stress, ect. I’m ready to hit 2011 running. I think this time I’ll make it for real. Happy Holidays to you and your family Dan, and to all your readers as well. I’m starting a running program in 2011 and my major goal (besides losing the weight) is to run a half marathon in 2011 and a full one in 2012. Wish me luck.
I do wish you luck, KittKatt! If you go after your 2011 goals with the same enthusiasm that you applied to your weight loss goals there is no way that you won’t achieve them! I have not been as successful as you thru the holidays but I am back on track as of today. Here’s to a successful 2011 for both of us π
I’m so excited to finally start a program that I have been needing for so long. Thanks for keeping this site up and running. My problem is getting weighed initially. Did anyone else have this problem? A year ago I had my annual check up and wouldn’t let the nurse weigh me. I haven’t been weighed in a couple of years, and I’m afraid I’ll be so depressed that I may not start the program. Is this totally crazy? Do you think it would hurt to start the program without the inital weigh in?
Hey Deanna, welcome aboard.
I totally understand how you feel about the weigh ins and even put off going to my own doctors appointments because of my weight issues. The great thing about any weight loss program is that you can usually see results faster by using a tape measurer than by using a scale. If you are more comfortable doing it like that, it is totally acceptable. Even without tracking your weight in any fashion, you will start to see results pretty quickly in how your clothes fit.
Another thing you could do is buy an outfit that you like that is in a size that you would like to reach for your first goal and use that as a way to track your progress. Remember to set reasonable goals so that you don’t get discouraged because your goal was too hard to attain. Don’t let anything get in the way of starting down the path to a healthier you. Best wishes and check in from time to time to let us know how you’re doing π
Weigh day is tommorow and I feel like I’ve gained this week. Pep talk please? Lol π
Everyone gains this week, KittKatt π
The good news is that you get to start all over the next day for the next weigh in!
Hi all. I am getting to re-start WW I did it a few years ago and had AWESOME results but life happened and I gave up for a while. I am 26. 227lbs and a stay at home mom(well actually a volunteer at school mom LOL) but it seems like its too many pts compared to what I am used to but I was 20lbs lighter last time. I have momentum books I think I am just going to use those because the new 2011 plan seems confusing and I have all the old stuff. There are also no mtgs within a hours drive of me so its all on my own this time!!! This seems like an awesome site so here I am!
I guess I should add.. age 26, femake, 227 lbs, 0 activity points and 5’5″ so 29 pts? that seems like a lot.
Hi Melinda, welcome aboard! 29 points is the correct number for you. It may seem high but there are a few good reasons to start high and lower your daily points as you lose weight.
First, it’s not a drastic change for your body right out of the gate, so you are more likely to stick with the program. It also helps control your weekly weight loss amounts keeping the number in the recommended .5 to 2 pound range.
Try to eat as much of your allowance as possible, eating less does not help speed the weight loss and may actually hamper it. Just be sure to keep it healthy and you will be fine. Remember, every time the second digit of your weight changes (your first one will be at 219) you lose 1 point.
Best wishes and thanks for using the site π
Week 11- didn’t lose anything, but didn’t gain so that’s good. Still at -29lbs, but ready to hit 2011 in high gear!
A ‘no loss’ week is as good as a loss when you’re expecting a gain. Congrats on your success getting through all of the holidays, KittKatt π
Look out 2011, here we come!
hi, i am curious; how many points should i have a day if i want to maintain the weight of 135lbs? shouldn’t i be eating those points instead of the 29 that i am doing now? how many oz’s of meat should i have before cooking.i always seem to have 7 are more wwp left at the end of the day. and i’m stuffed. is it okay to not eat all those points? i am 61 years young. Tell jen hi for me. thanks much, Dollieanna
Hi again, Dollieanna. Are you doing the new points plus plan or the old points plan? If it’s the new plan I’m not sure how they work the points out for maintenance. The old plan was kind of a trial and error thing to find the right number for you. They had you add 4 points to your daily total and try it out for a week. If you gained you took away a point and tried again. If you lost you added 4 more and tried again
Thanks hun,but forget the new plan i want what works. the old plan makes sense. look at the whole picture we still consider calories and total nutrition facts well;atleast i do. i weigh every thing then i cup it this way i can write down the mesurements for when i eat out. Now lets get down and dirty do i weigh my meat, poultry , fish or what other protein i have by 3ozs raw are do i add on to it for shrienkage???? oh by the way my waistline shrunk from a 50 to a 39 in one month. but not to up and down with joy i was also sick during the entire month of december. but for not being able to exercise;i do mighty fine on my loss . Tell jen hi for me. Dollieanna fron louisiana
Weigh day week 12: +1lbs
Loss to date: 28lbs
I gained one pound this week, but I contribute it to drinking heavily last night at a b-day party for a friend of mine. That’s right people, I’m claiming water retention this week! Lol
I seriously considered weighing tommorow or Tuesday instead since I knew it would be off by then, but then I decided I needed to face the consequences of being a drunken heathen last night so I went ahead and weighed today.
Anyway, I’ll be back on track this week. Hoping you and yous is having a good New Years so far Dan, and all your followers too!
Hey Dollieanna, great job for December (even if you were a little sick…lol). We just looked it up in our WW books and the point totals given are all for cooked weights, so yes, you would have to allow a little extra for shrinkage. Keep up the good work!
KittKatt, a little water retention never hurt anyone π
You will have a week here and there where you gain a little, it’s all part of the plan…back on track this week! π
hi huns, MY GOODNESS,alive do tell; why do people get so upperty about the new program!By…golly; to think people threw away their reciepes and the entire old plan. what a waste;i tell ya! We had gumbo today a total 5wwps it was yummo. did you find out how many points i can have at 135 lbs yet?? it is a must that i know. Thanks huns Dollieanna from louisiana.P.S. Tell Jen hi for me…..
Sorry dollieanna, but the amount of points for you to use for maintenance is something that you have to figure out on your own with WW…it involves a lot of trial and error until you find the number that is right for you. Here is what you do:
Take the point quiz above and whatever your total comes out to be add 4 points to that. Use that number for one week. At the end of one week if you continued to lose weight add 4 more points, if you gained weight subtract one point, and then use that new number for another week. You continue doing this until you find the number that is right for you.
Good luck!
